Convent of the Saint Seven Brothers

Address: c.da Convent - 64023 Mosciano Sant'Angelo

The church consists of a nave of the late Renaissance. Of great value is the painted wooden ceiling dating back to the seventeenth century, depicting the glory of Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs, with Jesus in her arms and a palm in her hand, S.Felicita presenting her seven children, the Saints Seven Brothers martyrs. Beside the Madonna, on the one hand there is St. Peter, St. Anthony of Padua, St. James of the Marches, San Pasquale Baylon, while on the other hand there is St. Francis, St. Clare, St. John of Capistrano, San Bernardino from Siena, St. Dominic, St. Vincent Ferrer and St. Rose of Viterbo. In the small side panels are depicted the Trinity, Baptism of Jesus, St. Joseph, Mary Magdalene and St. Margaret of Cortona (3).

The church is dedicated to Saints Seven Brothers and the Madonna del Casale, Queen of Angels, about which there is the beautiful wooden statue of 1688.

On the east side of the church is the beautiful cloister with hexagonal columns and Doric capitals. The square tower, built of brick and stone and later raised in order to obtain the belfry, has, on the west facade, a beautiful rose window in a mixture of brick and stone.

Finally, we need to remember two important events:

The first is the third centenary of Santa Maria del Casale, solemnly celebrated on May 22, 1988 and made even more prestigious by the presence of Cardinal Corrado Ursi, Archbishop emeritus of Naples, honorary citizen of the town of Mosciano S.Angelo (contribution of 26 November 1989);

The second happened in 1989. In this year, thanks to the continued involvement of PP. Carmine Serpetti, guardian, and James Quaglia, pastor, is finally completed, under the direction of the Superintendent for cultural, architectural, artistic and historical Abruzzo, the restoration of the wooden ceiling of the church and are also performed by the local artist Dante Barlafante some cleaning works in the remaining parts of the church.
